Job summary

Layup Parts is hiring a Machine Learning Engineer to train custom models using our internal manufacturing data and to extract structured data from engineering documents. You will work on cost estimation, design complexity, and geometry-based modeling to improve design and manufacturing workflows.

We seek someone with experience training models on large, parameter-rich datasets, preferably with spatial or geometric data problems. CAD experience and manufacturing background are a plus.

Qualifications

• Experience training custom ML models beyond basic labeling or fine-tuning.
• Experience with advanced object detection; data classification is a plus.
• Geometry-based modeling experience highly preferred.
• Experience with large, parameter-rich datasets.
• Background in structured, spatial, or geometric data problems.

Responsibilities

• Train and iterate on custom ML models using internal manufacturing and design data.
• Build models that estimate cost and predict design complexity or manufacturing difficulty from part geometry.
• Develop models to generate or assist in generating new designs based on historical data.
• Build pipelines to extract structured data (specs, dimensions, material callouts) from engineering documents.
• Evaluate and select modeling approaches suited to geometric, spatial, and other structured data.
• Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to source, clean, and label internal datasets.
• Own model performance end-to-end from data pipeline through training and deployment.
• Identify new opportunities where custom models could improve workflows.
