Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Land Surveying Intern for Summer 2027 in our Buffalo, NY office. You will assist technical staff and transform field data into Civil 3D drawings, supporting ALTA, Boundary, Topographic surveys, and subdivision records.

You will gain hands-on experience with Trimble, Total Station, and GPS, complementing fieldwork with office data reduction, calculations, and QA checks. Valid driver's license required; pre-employment drug screen will be conducted.

Qualifications

Pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, CADD, Engineering Technologies, or Civil Engineering.
Must have reliable transportation to the office/field.
Basic understanding of AutoCAD Civil3D preferred.
Previous experience or coursework related to Geomatics, Cartography, or Land Surveying preferred.
Interest in Land Surveying, Mapping, or Geomatics preferred.
Possess solid problem-solving skills.
Must be able to work in a high‑paced environment.
A valid driver's license and good driving record required.
Be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Requires a pre-employment drug screen.
Motor Vehicle Record will be checked and monitored.
Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job‑related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Responsibilities

Assist technical staff on day-to-day projects in their respective discipline.
Transform field collected electronic files into Autodesk Civil 3D (CAD) produced drawings.
Perform office duties, including data reduction, field note reduction, calculations, data checks and staking computations using survey computer programs and AutoCAD.
Enhance your technical skills with hands‑on experience using AutoCAD Civil3D to produce: ALTA Surveys, Topographic Surveys, Boundary Surveys, As-Built Drawings, Maps, Specific Purpose Surveys, Plot Plans & Subdivision Record Plats.
Reduce field notes from field collected data into survey/civil grade base maps.
Will also work in the field on control, topographic surveys, and pipeline surveys as Instrument Man of a one, two or three-person field crew.
Cut and remove brush and undergrowth for line of sight.
Performs mathematical calculations and field checking of field data.
Reads and understands plans and specifications.
Work alongside junior and senior level staff to execute project deadlines.
