Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design seeks a Land Surveying Intern for Summer 2027 inBuffalo, NY to gain hands-on experience with Trimble, Total Station, and GPS data capture.

You will produce ALTA, Boundary, and Topographic surveys using AutoCAD Civil3D, and contribute to As-Built drawings and subdivision plan work for utility mapping and development projects.

Qualifications

• Pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, CADD, Engineering Technologies, or Civil Engineering.
• Must have reliable transportation to the office/field.
• Basic understanding of AutoCAD Civil3D preferred.
• Previous experience or coursework related to Geomatics, Cartography, or Land Surveying preferred.
• Interest in Land Surveying, Mapping, or Geomatics preferred.

• Assist technical staff on day-to-day projects in their respective discipline.
• Transform field collected electronic files into Autodesk Civil 3D (CAD) produced drawings.
• Perform office duties, including data reduction, field note reduction, calculations, data checks and staking computations using survey computer programs and AutoCAD.
• Enhance your technical skills with hands-on experience using AutoCAD Civil3D to produce ALTA, Topographic, Boundary, and As-Built surveys.
• Work alongside junior and senior staff to meet project deadlines and support field crews.

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Land Surveying Intern to join the Survey Discipline in our Buffalo, NY office for Summer 2027.

As part of our Survey/Geospatial team, you’ll work with cutting-edge technology to capture data from the air, ground, and subsurface, delivering insights that are faster, safer, and more precise than ever before. From mapping communities to supporting major infrastructure projects, your work will fuel smarter decisions and shape the future. As an intern with our team, you will be working with our team of professionals to gain experience in the field using Trimble, Total Station, and GPS to capture geospatial data. You will also be working in our office utilizing AutoCAD Civil3D to produce ALTA, Boundary, and Topographic Surveys; As-Built drawings, and Subdivision Record Plats for projects ranging from national utility mapping and infrastructure redevelopment to local housing or commercial developments.

Responsibilities

• Enhance your technical skills with hands-on experience using AutoCAD Civil3D to produce:
  • ALTA Surveys
  • Topographic Surveys
  • Boundary Surveys
  • As-Built Drawings
  • Maps
  • Specific Purpose Surveys
  • Plot Plans & Subdivision Record Plats
• Reduce field notes from field collected data into survey/civil grade base maps.
• Will also work in the field on control, topographic surveys, and pipeline surveys as Instrument Man of a one, two or three-person field crew.
• Cut and remove brush and undergrowth for line of sight.
• Performs mathematical calculations and field checking of field data.
• Reads and understands plans and specifications.
• Work alongside junior and senior level staff to execute project deadlines.
• Network with current Colliers Engineering & Design professionals and gain real-life experience in consulting.

Qualifications

• A valid driver's license and good driving record required.
• Be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Requires a pre-employment drug screen.
• Motor Vehicle Record will be checked and monitored.
• Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Compensation: $17.00 - $23.00 per hour (depending on qualifications)
