Job description

This is a remote position with 30%-50% travel for fieldwork assignments. The ideal candidate will live in the Southeastern/Mid-Atlantic region of the US.

Summary:

The position requires a dynamic individual with a geology background, the ability to work flexible hours (primarily Monday through Friday), and a willingness to travel periodically. The role involves active fieldwork and office tasks, including sampling, data collection, oversight of drilling and well installation, and report preparation. Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations is required for higher-level positions. Responsibilities include sampling groundwater, soil, sediment, surface water, and air for contaminants, recording environmental data, overseeing groundwater monitoring well installation, classifying soils, using GPS, and preparing work plans and reports.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct contaminated site assessments safely and according to work plans.
  • Travel via aircraft, motor vehicles, ATVs, and watercraft for fieldwork and site visits.
  • Perform screening and sampling in various media following SOPs and regulations.
  • Oversee installation of borings and wells using various drilling methods.
  • Classify soils using USCS and interpret geophysical logs.
  • Document field operations thoroughly and communicate with project managers.
  • Inspect work progress and safety at job sites.
  • Schedule and supervise subcontractors.
  • Adhere to project schedules and budgets.
  • Assist or lead in preparing proposals, plans, and reports.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Level-specific Responsibilities:

Level II: Provide client support, lead project tasks, maintain technical expertise, and spend 30-50% of time in the field.

Level III: Similar to Level II with increased leadership, technical expertise, and project management; 20-40% fieldwork.

Senior: Lead technical execution, manage projects, and spend 10-25% in the field.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in Geology or related field.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and databases.
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively.

Experience requirements vary by level, from 3-7 years, with higher levels requiring more experience and credentials such as a Professional Geologist license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in additional software (AutoCAD, GIS, etc.).
  • Environmental certifications (ADEC, HAZWOPER, CHMM, CPR/First Aid).
  • Experience with federal projects and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures.
