Job summary

The Geologist 2 position with the State of Indiana is a technical specialist within the Geological Services Section, providing advanced geological expertise to support IDEM’s mission of protecting human health and the environment. This role assists in characterization and remediation of uncontrolled waste and spill sites through complex geological and hydrogeologic work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in geology or a related geoscience field.
  • Experience in geology, hydrogeology, environmental geology, or related work.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations related to site investigation and cleanup.

Responsibilities

  • Provide geologic consultation utilizing expertise in engineering geology and hydrogeology.
  • Interpret and apply applicable state and federal regulations for geological investigations.
  • Lead or assist field teams during site investigations.
  • Develop and write geologically related plans and documents.
  • Write technical reports and tabulate/interpret data for reports.
  • Follow proper sampling procedures and use geophysical field techniques.
  • Review guidance documents, reports, journals and related articles.
  • Determine historic geologic and hydrogeologic conditions from agency files.
  • Assist in geological enforcement actions.
  • Provide technical assistance to staff, agencies, industries, contractors, and the public.
