Job summary

The Doe Run Company in Viburnum, MO is seeking a Geologist II to apply field and software techniques and geostatistical modeling to assist in mineral exploration up to the advanced drill and evaluation state. This role is based in the Exploration division in Viburnum, MO.

The successful candidate will leverage geology knowledge, 3D modeling, and data analytics to generate exploration targets, log holes, and support resource estimation while adhering to safety and environmental standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years geological experience, graduate experience considered.
  • AcQuire Database or similar drilling database knowledge preferred.
  • Vulcan or similar geological modeling experience preferred.
  • Must maintain valid, current driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Model geology in project areas using 3D modeling software and generate exploration targets.
  • Lead surface drilling program (rotary and diamond) through all phases.
  • Utilize geological software to analyze data and write field reports.
  • Assist with annual resource calculation and audits; compile data for resource estimates.
  • Follow EHS policies and support safety improvements.

The Doe Run Company is currently seeking a Geologist II to use field and software techniques and geostatistical modeling in order to assist in the discovery and development of mineral exploration up to and including the advanced drill/evaluation state. This position is located at our Exploration division in Viburnum, MO. Based in St. Louis, Missouri, The Doe Run Company is a privately held natural resources company and one of the largest lead producers in the Western Hemisphere. Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or a related field.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proficient computer skills, specifically spreadsheets and databases, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Proficient knowledge of geological mineralization, economic geology, and geological interpretation.
  • Proficient in basic geological skills of core logging and data analytics.
  • High attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Proficient knowledge of writing/creating reports.
  • Excellent analysis, observation, and decision-making skills.
  • Basic knowledge of safety, occupational hazards, and environmental compliance.
Responsibilities
  • Model geology in assigned project areas using 3D modeling software. Generate exploration targets for surface diamond drilling. Log project area holes.
  • Lead surface drilling program (rotary and diamond drilling) in the various phases: hole spotting, road and site prep, rotary drilling, diamond drilling, and pipe pulling/reclamation.
  • Utilize various geological software programs in order to analyze data and write detailed, accurate, concise, and technical field reports in assigned project areas.
  • Assist with the annual resource calculation process and the audits. Resource map creation followed by auditing resource maps and both the block and pillar resource databases, assembling data for annual resource estimate calculations. Compile data for block resource database reconciliation and assemble final data.
  • Complete tasks in a safe and environmentally compliant manner by following EHS (environmental, health, and safety) policies, procedures, and best practices; support and assist peers in working in a safe, compliant manner; report unsafe acts or conditions, incidents, and deviations; and provide feedback to support continuous improvement in EHS performance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Environmental Conditions, Physical & Lifting Requirements
  • Regularly required to use a computer/tablet, occasionally required to use non-powered hand tools, and drive a personnel carrier. Rarely uses a phone/radio and uses loading equipment.
  • Frequently works in an office environment. Rarely exposed to wet, humid conditions, and rarely works in outdoor weather conditions. Rarely exposed to loud noise levels. Rarely exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • Regularly required to use repetitive hand, wrist, and finger movements; Frequently required to grasp, sit, and stand; Occasionally required to talk, hear, walk, push, and reach. Rarely required to drive, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, or balance; Requires clarity of vision, three-dimensional vision.
  • Occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.
