Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan is seeking a Geologist in Safford, Arizona, to support logging of drill samples, geologic mapping, and data interpretation. You’ll work under a Senior Geologist to assist in resource block modeling and database preparation, contributing to safe, sustainable exploration activities.

The role requires a geology degree and offers opportunities to develop skills in mapping, sampling, and cross-section creation, with travel up to 50% and strong emphasis on safety and company values.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geology or closely related field; no experience required.
• Willingness to travel domestically up to 50%.
• Experience with Python or Leapfrog Geo preferred.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision of a Senior Geologist, log drill samples and map geology.
• Log core and drill cuttings.
• Map surface and underground geology.
• Assist interpretation of geological data into cross sections and plans.
• Collaborate on resource block models meeting standards.
• Prepare drill hole databases and exploration records.
• Perform rock chip sampling or soil surveys.
• Perform other duties as required.

In operation since 2007, Safford operations is a zero-discharge facility and one of the most sustainable mines in the United States. The operation’s commitment to utilizing advanced technologies and sustainable practices strongly emphasizes safety and environmental stewardship. Located in southeastern Arizona, close to more than 4 million acres of national forest, employees and their families can connect with the great outdoors while fishing, rafting, hiking and more. What You Will Do

• Under supervision of a Senior Geologist,complete logging of drill samples, geologic mapping, sampling and assist in the completion of resource block models.
• Perform logging of core and reverse circulation drill cuttings.
• Perform geologic mapping of surface and underground areas.
• Assist Senior Geologist with the interpretation of all geological data (e.g., rock type,alteration and structure), assay, and mineralogical data into internally consistent crosssections and level plans.
• Work with a team of Geologists in the completion of computerized resource block modelsthat meet corporate modeling standards.
• Prepare and update drill hole database, maps of deposits and other exploration records.
• Perform rock chip sampling or soil surveys.
• Perform other duties as required.

• Ability to correctly identify and accurately estimate relative proportions and textural characteristics of metal-bearing and gangue minerals in a production setting.

• Ability to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions.

What We Offer You

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently$75,000-$104,000.This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
