  • Support Brownfields projects and prepare technical deliverables and client communications.
  • Assist with drafting environmental reports and responses to regulatory comments.

Job description

Your Opportunity

The role of the Geologist, Environmental Scientist, or Environmental Engineer is to perform tasks assigned from the Project Manager associated with environmental assessments, hazardous material surveys, hydrogeological studies, subsurface investigations, remediation, and monitoring projects; sampling of soil, soil vapor sediment, surface water, and groundwater; oversight of subcontractors; geologic mapping, soil/bedrock logging, maintaining site safety and security; production of maps; data interpretation/evaluation; and deliverable preparation.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in the implementation of small to large-scale soil assessment and mapping projects, from proposal development to project completion.
  • Assist with environmental regulatory and permitting responsibilities, writing and reviewing technical reports, preparing environmental permit applications (i.e. well permits), and facilitating successful environmental permitting of multiple and varied projects.
  • Prepare project deliverables, including Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, quarterly progress reports, work plans, sampling and analysis plans, health and safety plans, and technical memoranda or reports, in whole or in part, depending on the size and complexity of the document.
  • Conducting and overseeing various environmental field activities.
  • Participate in proposal preparation (work scope, task-level budgeting, cost estimates); may perform calculations, gather or review information, or prepare standard sections of proposals.
  • Ensuring QA/QC and H&S requirements and procedures are identified and followed throughout a project's life cycle.
  • Works with engineers and planners on environmental assessments and construction monitoring.
  • Field work responsibilities may include: Phase I ESA site visits, Phase II environmental sampling, field inspections (ranging from indoor building inspections to remote areas requiring hiking), GPS surveys, soil and sediment sampling, soil vapor sampling, groundwater sampling, stormwater sampling, oversee environmental drilling, soil logging, and stormwater inspections.
  • Responsible for coordinating with subcontractors (such as analytical laboratories, private locators, and drillers) while performing office assignments.
  • Experience with construction oversight and/or remediation system operation and maintenance activities a plus, but not required.
  • May provide field and technical support on agency regulated projects.
  • Conduct hazardous materials surveys and building inspections for asbestos, lead-based paint, PCBs, universal waste, and other regulated materials; document field observations, collect representative samples, coordinate laboratory analysis, and prepare clear survey findings and recommendations for client deliverables.
  • May assist with the implementation and management of Brownfields projects.
  • Office based technical work may include developing tables and figures using analytical data and topographic/site maps; drafting boring logs, preparing environmental reports, providing input for proposals and presentations; preparing drafts of various deliverable components; responding to client or regulatory comments for deliverables.
  • Project management responsibilities include obtaining quotes from subcontractors; setting up task orders, preparing a scope of work, scheduling subcontractors, overseeing subcontractors in the field and implementing fieldwork within the proposed budget.
  • Demonstrates sound application of established practices, standards and guidelines.
  • May manage and review work of junior staff.
  • Applies technical and business knowledge and methods to develop creative, effective, and economical solutions to address current and potential project issues.
