Overview

Job Title: Geologist
Location: Midland Texas

Department: Subsurface / Geoscience
Reports To: VP of Subsurface

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated Development Geologist with strong operations geology expertise and experience supporting asset development. The ideal candidate will bring 5+ years of industry experience. Experience in the Permian Basin is strongly preferred.

This role requires a collaborative, detail-oriented geoscientist who can work across disciplines to optimize drilling execution and contribute to the strategic development of the asset. The successful candidate will support drilling operations while contributing to reservoir characterization and planning workflows.

Responsibilities

Asset Geology

  • Identify exploration targets and acquisition prospects through geologic mapping, geophysical correlation, and advanced petrophysical analysis to boost reserves and production.
  • Evaluate core and non-core areas for trade, divestiture, or development, focusing on the Midland and Delaware Basins.
  • Conduct mapping, log and play fairway analysis, integrating seismic, operational, and public data into reservoir models.
  • Collaborate on development planning and evaluate opportunities for leasing, land purchases, and trades.
  • Integrate reservoir behavior and well performance data with engineering teams to predict outcomes.
  • Support Reservoir Engineers with economic and type curve evaluations.
  • Present geological findings through maps, cross-sections, and technical presentations.
  • Manage geologic data acquisition, interpretation, and storage.
  • Report findings to state and federal agencies.

Operations Geology

  • Plan development targets by integrating mapping, correlations, and prospect analysis.
  • Collaborate with engineers on well planning and create drilling prognoses.
  • Geo-steer horizontal wells using appropriate software.
  • Communicate with mud loggers and geosteering teams.
  • Support drilling operations with 24/7 availability for communication.
Education
  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in geology, geophysics, or a related field.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in geology or geophysics.
Experience
  • Minimum: 5+ years in upstream oil and gas geology.
  • Preferred: 4+ years in the Permian Basin.
Preferred Attributes
  • Proactive mindset with a strong attention to detail and operational discipline.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing operational needs and asset development needs.
  • Willingness to support on-call or after-hours responsibilities during active drilling campaigns.
Travel Requirements
  • 15-20% travel for meetings, training, and field visits.
