This position integrates geologic and engineering data to identify high-quality landing zones, manage well spacing, and drive continuous improvement in field performance.

The ideal candidate combines technical expertise in unconventional plays with strong cross-disciplinary communication skills and the ability to execute development plans efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
Geologic Interpretation
  • Build/maintain maps of target formations in and around operated units (structure, isopach, OOIP/OGIP, GOR/phase/yield, BHP/Pgrad, etc.)
  • Integrate all operated and non-operated data into subsurface interpretation such as geosteering interpretations
  • Have a good understanding of all uphole zones as potential geohazards to operations or upside potential. Map zones as needed
  • Identify optimal landing zones and lateral targets for horizontal wells by studying offset wells. Intimate knowledge of all horizontal wells on and around operated units is critical
Well Planning & Execution
  • Collaborate with geophysics, drilling, completions, and reservoir engineers (asset management team) to design and position horizontal wells within the asset
  • Work closely with Operations Geologist to build pre-drill SOP’s and well plans to use when executing geosteering in the lateral
  • Monitor geosteering efforts during drilling to ensure pre-drill plan is being executed effectively
  • Conduct post-drill evaluations and ensure all geologic data from operations is stored appropriately and integrated into interpretations effectively. This also includes compiling offset well data as needed, working with the Land department to find ways to obtain
Reservoir Characterization & Data Integration
  • Utilize petrophysical and rock mechanical properties information to support completion design and frac planning
  • Work closely with data science and engineering teams to integrate production analytics and machine learning insights into geologic interpretation
Development Optimization
  • Work with engineering teams to assess well spacing and sequencing strategies for full-field development
  • Identify refrac, re-entry, and infill drilling opportunities based on reservoir performance
  • Support annual reserves booking processes

  • Experience in South Texas (Eagle Ford/Austin Chalk) is strongly preferred
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in geologic software (Geographix preferred) and/or Geosteering/well planning software (ROGII’s StarSteer strongly preferred)
  • Knowledge of geosteering operations and mud log data interpretation
  • Familiarity with seismic data interpretation
  • Understanding of geomechanics, frac gradients and completions-related data
  • Familiarity with Spotfire or data visualization platforms for trend analysis and production data integration
  • Experience with machine learning applications in geoscience or real-time drilling analytics preferred
