Job summary

BTG Pactual Timberland Investment Group (TIG) is seeking a GIS internship student to assist with day-to-day GIS and forest information system work under guidance from the GIS/FIS team, including data editing, map preparation, and quality control.

The role involves maintaining forest management data, supporting data reviews, and learning new tools, including applied AI, while collaborating with Accounting, Asset Management, and Forestry Operations teams.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in GIS, forestry, natural resources, geography, environmental science, data management, or a related field; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
• Coursework, internship, project, or practical experience using Esri GIS tools such as ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day GIS and forest information system work, including spatial data editing, digitizing, attribution, and quality control under guidance from the GIS/FIS team.
• Help prepare maps, exhibits, spatial reports, and GIS deliverables for internal teams, field staff, clients, and other data users.
• Help maintain forest management data, geodatabases, map layers, and related applications through assigned updates and routine review.
• Assist with data review, cleanup, documentation, and process-improvement tasks that support GIS, LRM, reporting, and operational workflows.
• Use internal resources, training, self-learning, and emerging tools - including applied AI where appropriate - to support assigned work and improve productivity.
• Work with the GIS/FIS team to understand requests from Accounting, Property Management, Asset Management, Portfolio Management, Forestry Operations, and other teams, and help deliver timely GIS and data support.
• Provide basic user support, help document common procedures, and elevate complex technical issues to the GIS/FIS team.

BTG Pactual Timberland Investment Group (TIG) is a timberland investment management organization focused on delivering sustainable timberland investments to institutional investors at scale. TIG manages approximately US$8.2 billion in assets under management and 3.3 million acres under management, with 41 million trees planted in 2025.

TTG FS provides technical support services to TIG and its clients, including GIS and forest management information systems support, spatial data management, harvest scheduling support, timber inventory program administration, database maintenance, cloud environment support, and related property management services.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in GIS, forestry, natural resources, geography, environmental science, data management, or a related field; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
• Coursework, internship, project, or practical experience using Esri GIS tools such as ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
• Ability to follow instructions while editing, checking, and maintaining spatial datasets with attention to attributes, symbology, data quality, and map presentation.
• Basic understanding of geodatabases, relational data concepts, and GIS data-quality practices; willingness to learn forest information systems and business workflows.
• Able to learn new tools, follow documented procedures, troubleshoot routine issues, and ask questions when additional guidance is needed.
• Clear communication skills and a service-oriented approach when working with internal users and team members.
• Organized, detail-oriented, dependable, and able to complete assigned tasks and deadlines with appropriate supervision.
• Comfortable supporting real production work while continuing to build technical skills in a team environment.

PREFERRED SKILLS

• Familiarity with field data collection applications, GPS/mobile workflows, Survey123, Field Maps, dashboards, web maps, or similar tools.
• Interest in applied AI, automation, documentation, data review, and practical productivity tools.
• Self-motivated, curious, adaptable, and willing to take ownership of assigned work while learning from feedback.
