Job summary

Syngenta Seeds in Malta Genotyping lab seeks a Scientist to execute genotyping protocols, including DNA extraction, library preparation, PCR, and sequencing. The role supports documentation, inventory management, and basic maintenance of lab equipment.

The candidate will interact with peers across regions, participate in process improvements, and contribute to cost reduction while ensuring quality and timely results in a fast-paced lab environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Biology, Genetics or related field.
• Solid understanding of basic laboratory procedures and equipment.
• Must be authorized to work for Syngenta in the United States without work authorization sponsorship.
• 2–5 years of experience in a professional laboratory (preferred).
• Experience operating lab equipment such as Tecan, Biotek Multiflos, centrifuge, and sequencers (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Prepare DNA libraries for sequencing.
• Perform PCR activities.
• Extract DNA from samples (leaf and/or seeds).
• Handle buffers, sample plates, grinders, and liquid handling machines.
• Update tasks via LIMS and maintain sample identity.
• Train and support lab members and contractors.
• Contribute to process improvements and cost reduction.
• Collaborate across regions to troubleshoot data quality issues.
