Job summary

The University of Minnesota, Twin Cities seeks a statistical programmer in genomics under PI Dr. PingHsun Hsieh in the Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development department.

You will conduct research under supervision and manage lab activities, collaborating with team members to advance the lab's genomic projects. Key duties include designing computational/statistical methods for large genomic datasets, presenting results, and helping with grant writing and manuscript preparation.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA in Statistics, Math, Computer Science, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years.
  • Experience in Python, Rust, R or other common programming languages (e.g., C/C++, Java). Include links to samples of your code (preferable on Github).
  • Familiar with at least one from each of the two skill categories: Statistical (ML/AI models; basic statistical methods) and Large, complex data analysis (HPC environments; genomic sequencing data).

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement computational and statistical approaches to analyze large genomic datasets.
  • Participate in lab presentations and discussions.
  • Compile and report findings in meetings.
  • Communicate effectively with lab members and collaborators to facilitate research work.
  • Literature review and protocol development to stay updated on current research.
  • Contribute to grant writing and manuscript preparation.
  • Design and maintain the lab website.
