Job summary

The Genome Editing Scientist—Bioinformatics role at Bayer seeks a data-driven scientist to develop reproducible analyses and predictive models for editing tool design. You will collaborate with biology teams to translate questions into computational strategies and validate predictions with experiments.

You'll build pipelines to evaluate editing efficiency, apply ML methods, and generate clear visuals for decision-making.

Qualifications

• PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, or a related field; or a Master’s with 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong programming skills in Python and R; ability to write maintainable, well-documented code.
• Experience analyzing genome editing NGS datasets (amplicon/targeted sequencing) and interpreting results for CRISPR-Cas systems.
• Knowledge of statistical methods for editing precision and efficiency; ability to communicate assumptions clearly.
• Experience with plant functional genomics analyses and integrating multi-omics signals for hypothesis generation.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain reproducible pipelines and datasets (sequence, accessibility/expression, structure) to evaluate editing tool performance.
• Develop and apply statistical and ML models to quantify drivers of editing efficiency and compare tool variants.
• Design computational approaches to improve precise editing components (guide/target design).
• Analyze large-scale sequencing data to characterize editing outcomes and generate decision-ready visuals.
• Collaborate with molecular/structural biology teams to translate data into actionable tool development recommendations.
• Coordinate with genomics and data science stakeholders to ensure scalable, robust analyses.
