Job summary

Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, OH seeks a laboratory professional to perform routine and complex analyses in the Institute for Genomic Medicine, including quality control, data documentation, and safe operation of lab equipment. The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in a lab science and ASCP certification (or eligibility), with strong attention to detail, communication, and teamwork.

Genetics lab experience is preferred; CE requirements apply.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution, or 42 CFR 493.1405(b)(5)(i)(B) equivalence.
  • ASCP certification as MLS/MB/CG or eligible for certification.
  • Certification exam must be passed within 3 years of hire date; 12 hours CE annually.
  • Genetics laboratory testing experience preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and complex technical laboratory procedures and follows proper equipment use, maintenance, and documentation.
  • Drafts patient reports by interpreting assay results and records laboratory processes and data, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Performs quality control testing of newly received reagents, chemicals, and kits used for patient testing; completes quality training and participates in quality assurance programs.
  • Reviews the status of clinical and research cases with appropriate leaders; identifies and communicates problems, errors, and deviations in lab processes.
  • Maintains a safe working environment, following applicable laws and regulations and assists with ongoing safety audits.
