Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Neurosciences Genetic Counselor to provide genetic counseling and education to individuals and families at risk for a range of hereditary neurological disorders. You will obtain and analyze family history, assess risk, and guide testing decisions within multidisciplinary clinics.

The role supports patient care through counseling on test results, treatment options, and coping strategies, with collaboration across neurology and related specialties.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelors Degree or equivalent.
• Work Experience: 4–6 years.
• State licensure and/or professional certification requirement/s dependent on position.

Provides genetic counseling and education to individuals and families at risk for a variety of hereditary neurological disorders, including neuromuscular, movement, cognitive, epileptic, and vascular disorders. Obtains and analyzes family medical history to identify patients at risk for specific disorders or syndromes. Recommends genetic testing as warranted and counsels patients on test results, treatment and alternative coping methods. Collaborates with other healthcare professionals in multidisciplinary clinics to provide optimal patient care.
