Job summary

Yale University’s DNA Diagnostics Laboratory in the Department of Genetics seeks a Genetic Counselor Assistant to provide analytical and operational support for inherited disorder testing. You will coordinate with genetic counselors, physicians, and staff to optimize testing and reporting.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree with two years of related experience, strong synthesis and communication skills, and familiarity with clinical documentation, regulatory requirements, and data tracking

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to critically evaluate and synthesize complex clinical, scientific, and operational information from multiple sources; identify discrepancies, assess requirements, and support effective resolution of issues.
• Ability to collect, maintain, analyze, and interpret testing and operational data using databases, laboratory information systems, and tracking tools; identify trends and prepare clear summaries and reports.
• Ability to conduct literature and database research and evaluate clinical and scientific evidence related to genetics, inherited disorders, molecular testing, and associated laboratory processes.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary stakeholders, including genetic counselors, physicians, laboratory personnel, prior authorization staff, and external laboratories.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to manage complex workflows, maintain accurate documentation, identify process or compliance gaps, and contribute to quality assurance and process improvement activities.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with investigators and study team members to consult, conduct analysis, and identify trial objectives within specified parameters.
• Translate research needs into application and operational requirements for areas of research; develop tools/workshops to elicit requirements.
• Critically evaluate information from protocols, agreements, and budgets to reconcile conflicts and decompose high-level information into data essentials.
• Analyze data with standard methods and develop reporting modules, ad-hoc reports, and related tools; conduct research, data analysis, and scenario analyses.
• Develop and maintain documentation and libraries on key processes and guidelines.
