Job summary

Generac is seeking a Generator Technician I to perform on-site repair and preventive maintenance of Generac generators, including emergency repairs as needed. This role requires up to 50% travel and field work at customer sites in Marlborough, MA.

You will read manuals and schematics, diagnose issues, and document all work in FieldServio. A High School Diploma and a valid Driver's license are required, with 1 year of mechanical experience; associate degree preferred.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of industrial experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical, electrical troubleshooting and repair of generators.
• Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of generators during hours and after-hours as directed.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance service and/or repairs of generators.
• Read and interpret manuals, electrical schematics, generator literature, and work orders.
• Detect faulty operations, report to service manager in a timely manner.
• Stay current on NFPA and state regulations for Emergency Power Supply Systems.
• Create reports for all work performed in FieldServio.
• Communicate report findings via phone, email, or in person.

Job description

The Generator Technician I is responsible for providing on-site repair, equipment preventive maintenance, and ability to assist with installation. This position will require up to 50% travel.

Major Responsibilities

• Perform technical skills including but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, troubleshooting and repair of generators.
• Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of generators both during normal working hours and after-hours, weekends and holidays as directed.
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance service and/or repairs of generators.
• Read and interpret operational manuals, electrical schematics, universal generator literature, and work orders to perform required maintenance and/or repairs.
• Detect faulty operations, defective material and report them and any other unusual situations to the service manager in a timely manner
• Stay current on National Fire Protection Association and State regulations for Emergency Power Supply Systems.
• Create reports for all work performed in FieldServio.
• Communicate report findings through but not limited to phone calls, emails and in person communication.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

• Working knowledge of mechanical design, AC and DC circuitry, power generation, wiring schematics, and connection diagrams
• Working knowledge of Engine maintenance and troubleshooting of natural gas fuel systems.
• Knowledge of power generation; light tower, pumps, and heating products
• Working knowledge of diesel or gaseous engines
• Moderate troubleshooting skills, the ability to make independent decisions, and work with minimal supervision.
• Working knowledge of transfer switch operations
• Ability to obtain and maintain Generac certification in the air-cooled and protector series courses
• Ability to work and communicate well with others
• Ability to provide detailed reports within 24 hours
• Ability to manage and respond to emails, texts, and phone calls in a safe and timely manner

The employee must comply with the assigned location PPE requirements, including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, appropriate gloves, clothing, and shields for required tasks, and closed-toed or safety shoes as required by facility safety policies. The employee must be able to work in varying weather conditions including extreme heat, snow, and ice. The employee may be required to obtain a DOT Medical Card and have the ability to drive a heavy-duty truck on a daily basis.
