Job summary

Generac Power Systems is seeking a Generator Technician I in Marlborough, MA to perform on-site repairs, preventive maintenance, and assist with installations. Travel up to 50% may be required to service diesel and gaseous engine generators across customer sites.

You will read manuals and schematics, diagnose issues, create detailed reports, and maintain Generac certification. A high school diploma and valid driver's license are required; associate degree preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; Associate degree preferred.
• 1 year of mechanical experience; 2-3 years industrial experience preferred.
• Valid driver license required and ability to travel up to 50%.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical, electrical, troubleshooting and repair of generators.
• Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of generators during and outside normal hours.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance service and/or repairs of generators.
• Read and interpret manuals, electrical schematics, literature, and work orders.
• Detect faulty operations and report to service manager in a timely manner.
• Stay current on NFPA and state regulations for Emergency Power Supply Systems.
• Create reports for all work performed in FieldServio.
• Communicate report findings through phone, email, and in person.

The Generator Technician I is responsible for providing on-site repair, equipment preventive maintenance, and ability to assist with installation. This position will require up to 50% travel.

Major Responsibilities

• Perform technical skills including but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, troubleshooting and repair of generators.

• Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of generators both during normal working hours and after-hours, weekends and holidays as directed.

• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance service and/or repairs of generators.

• Read and interpret operational manuals, electrical schematics, universal generator literature, and work orders to perform required maintenance and/or repairs.

• Detect faulty operations, defective material and report them and any other unusual situations to the service managerin a timely manner

• Stay current on National Fire Protection Association and State regulations for Emergency Power Supply Systems.

• Create reports for all work performed in FieldServio.

• Communicate report findings through but not limited to phone calls, emails and in person communication.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

• Working knowledge of mechanical design, AC and DC circuitry, power generation, wiringschematics, and connection diagrams

• Working knowledge of Engine maintenance and troubleshooting of natural gas fuel systems.

• Knowledge of power generation; light tower, pumps, and heating products

• Working knowledge of diesel or gaseous engines

• Moderate troubleshooting skills, the ability to make independent decisions, and work with minimal supervision.

• Working knowledge of transfer switch operations

• Ability to obtain andmaintainGenerac certification in the air-cooled and protector series courses

• Ability to work and communicate well with others

• Ability to provide detailed reports within 24 hours

• Ability to manage and respond to emails, texts, and phone calls in a safe andtimelymanner

The employee must be able to work in varying weather conditions including extreme heat, snow, and ice. The employee may be required to obtain a DOT Medical Card and have the ability to drive a heavy-duty truck on a daily basis.
