Job summary

Penco Electric & Generators seeks a Generator Service Technician to diagnose, repair, and maintain residential standby generators and transfer switch systems. The ideal candidate has engine experience, electrical knowledge, strong troubleshooting, and a commitment to customer service.

The role involves reading diagrams, documenting work with iPad apps, and participating in on-call rotations for outages. Independent outdoor work in varying weather is common.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of field service experience in generator, electrical, HVAC, automotive, or related areas.
• Experience with engines and mechanical equipment.
• Knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, controls, and AC/DC fundamentals.
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams and use diagnostic tools.
• Valid driver's license with clean record.
• Strong communication and customer-service skills, able to work independently outdoors.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, service, and repair residential standby generators and transfer switches.
• Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and warranty repairs.
• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, fuel, ignition, charging, and control-system issues.
• Read and interpret wiring diagrams and electrical schematics.
• Explain service findings and repair recommendations clearly to customers.
• Document each job using iPad and field-service software, including findings and parts used.
• Participate in on-call rotation for emergency outage service.

• Use a company-provided iPad and field-service software to document each job, including findings, work performed, and parts or materials used.
• Participate in an on-call rotation for emergency outage service.

Required Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in generator, electrical, HVAC, automotive, mechanical, or related field service.
• Experience working with engines and mechanical equipment.
• Understanding of electrical systems, wiring, controls, and AC/DC fundamentals.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and diagnostic/troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to use multimeters and other diagnostic tools.
• Comfort using iPads, mobile applications, and company software to complete job documentation.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Strong communication and customer-service skills, with the ability to work independently and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Generac Air-Cooled Certification or other Generac certifications.
