Job summary

MITRE is seeking an intern to join the Generative and Agentic AI Engineering Department, focusing on natural language processing, AI/ML methods, and large language models. You will contribute to research, development, evaluation, and integration across translation, speech, information extraction, and retrieval tasks in a government-focused environment.

The role requires full-time student status in CS or a related field, experience with programming languages, and coursework in NLP.

Qualifications

• GPA demonstrating sustained excellence
• Currently enrolled full-time in an accredited degree program (CS, Linguistics, Data Science, or related) and plan to remain enrolled the next semester
• Experience with general purpose programming languages (C/C++, Java, MATLAB, Go, Python) or similar
• Experience or coursework in Natural Language Processing and its applications

Responsibilities

• Conduct research, development, engineering, evaluation and integration in NLP, including computational linguistics, AI/ML and LLMs
• Apply NLP techniques to machine translation, speech processing, information extraction and retrieval
