Job summary

MITRE, a nonprofit engineering and applied research organization, invites interns to contribute to the Generative and Agentic AI Engineering Department. You will perform research, development, and integration in NLP, ML, and LLM applications for government-sponsored projects in translation, speech processing, and information extraction.

Requirements include a current full-time student status in CS, linguistics, or data science, and experience with programming languages and NLP libraries.

Qualifications

• Sustained excellence in academic performance.
• Must be a student enrolled full-time in an accredited degree-seeking program in Computer Science, Linguistics, Data Science, or a related degree and continue to be enrolled full-time the semester following the internship.
• Experience with one or more general purpose programming languages including: C/C++, Java, MATLAB, Go, Python or similar.
• Experience or coursework in Natural Language Processing and its applications.

Responsibilities

• Perform research, development, engineering, evaluation and integration in natural language processing, including computational linguistics, AI/ML, and LLMs.
• Apply NLP, AI/ML techniques to machine translation, speech processing, information extraction and retrieval, identity matching and related language technologies.
