Job summary

Xcel Energy in Minnesota invites energetic students to join our Electric Distribution Design internship for summer 2027. You will gain hands-on experience in project management, GIS/mapping, field site visits, and other office tasks while supporting IT systems and cross‑department collaboration.

We seek current sophomores or higher enrolled in ABET-accredited programs (Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management) willing to work up to 40 hours/week in summer

This intern position will assist with Electric Distribution Design tasks, including project management, GIS/mapping, visiting project sites for field work, billing, and other office tasks as needed. This position will work with the Company’s various IT programs, construction, and other departments to provide electric services/requests to our customers.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

• Project Management
• Communication with internal/external customers
• Understanding construction practices
• Ability to learn Company IT systems, including GIS/mapping

This position is for a May 24, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements

• Current student, Sophomore or higher
• Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management
• Travel to job sites for project design planning, construction site readiness, customer meetings.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $18.90 to $22.10 per hour
