Job summary

Sonoco Products Company is hiring a General Worker at the City of Industry paper mill. This rotating‑shift, full‑time role reports to the Production Supervisor or Shift Supervisor.

The position entails unloading and storing recovered scrap material and fiber, operating forklifts and clamp trucks, and maintaining clean, safe mill areas. The role requires the ability to work a 28‑day shift cycle, including holidays and overtime, and to obtain/maintain a forklift license.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Unload and store incoming scrap material safely.
• Unload and store incoming recovered fiber safely.
• Maintain equipment and perform housekeeping in beater room and yards.
• Operate a fork truck with a clamp attachment for baled fiber.
• Move and store loose recovered fiber using a clamp-equipped tractor.
• Load fiber onto a pulper conveyor and unload baled furnish from trailers.
• Operate clamp truck and forklift to move materials between mill areas.
• Follow Sonoco safety practices and report unsafe conditions.

Job description

Position Overview

General Worker at Sonoco’s City of Industry paper mill. The role is a rotating‑shift position reporting to the Production Supervisor, Shift Supervisor, or Machine Tender.

Location

City of Industry.

Pay

$28.44 per hour.

Shift Schedule

Rotating 28‑day cycle covering 1st (6am–2pm), 2nd (2pm–10pm), and 3rd (10pm–6am) shifts. Each shift lasts seven consecutive days followed by specified days off, as detailed in the company schedule.

Responsibilities

• Safely unload and store incoming recovered scrap material.
• Safely unload and store incoming recovered fiber.
• Maintain equipment and perform general housekeeping in the beater room, yard area, and other mill locations.
• Unload baled recovered fiber using a fork truck with a clamp attachment.
• Recognize the different types of corrugated furnish used in paper production.
• Move and store loose recovered fiber with a CaterpillarT‑12 tractor equipped with a clamp attachment.
• Keep storage areas and aisles clean and orderly.
• Load fiber onto a hydrapulper conveyor.
• Haul bales from storage and place them in temporary storage for use on subsequent shifts.
• Operate a Hyster8000 Clamp Truck to load the pulper conveyor with baled furnish and unload baled furnish from flat‑bed trailers, storing them by type and grade.
• Operate a Toyota4500 Fork Truck to haul bins, equipment, scrap rolls, and other items between mill areas.
• Drive within the waste paper area and other vehicle lanes as required.
• Obtain and maintain a fork truck license.
• Follow Sonoco’s safety practices and report any damage or unsafe conditions immediately.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
