Position Summary

The General Trades Technician will provide general maintenance to facilities and building maintenance. As Maintenance Technician, you will be a valuable member of the maintenance team. Responsible for checking, troubleshooting, and making routine repairs in electrical, air conditioning, water heaters, plumbing, painting, carpentry, and other building maintenance areas. Work can include work in tight spaces depending on the maintenance requirement.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Performs general maintenance and repair work on facilities and equipment.
  2. Responds to service requests including electrical, furnaces, lighting, HVAC systems, appliances, water heaters, disposals, plumbing & fixtures, carpentry, painting, roofing, and other maintenance items.
  3. Performs routine preventative maintenance to ensure smooth operation of machines and prevent deterioration of building conditions.
  4. Adheres to preventive maintenance programs for heating and ventilation systems, including replacing filters.
  5. Assists in emergency maintenance such as sewage backups, water main breaks, fires, water leaks, and appliance repairs.
  6. Assembles, installs, and repairs wiring, plumbing, machinery, and equipment.
  7. Checks blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs.
  8. Maintains and repairs components of the facility's systems.
  9. Operates plant equipment and building automation systems.
  10. Maintains tools and equipment, operates trade tools, and manages inventory.
  11. Uses equipment and chemicals safely, following PPE guidelines.
  12. Reads blueprints, plans, drawings, and sketches to determine work and resources needed.
  13. Maintains a safe and clean workplace, complying with safety procedures and standards.
  14. Handles hazardous materials per laws and regulations.
  15. Corrects unsafe conditions promptly and observes safety practices and regulations.
  16. Ensures maintenance meets quality standards and deadlines.
  17. Available for on-call services as needed.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education

High school diploma or equivalent required. Skills trade certification is a plus.

Experience and Qualifications
  • 2-3 years experience in building repairs and maintenance or relevant area preferred.
  • Knowledge of electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and general maintenance.
  • EPA certification is a plus.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather, perform physical work, lift up to 50 pounds regularly, above 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Willing to work occasional on-call shifts.
  • Valid driver's license and insurance required.
  • Team player with a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and reliability.
  • Computer literate.
  • Certifications may be required at hire or within a specified timeframe.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug test and background check.
