Descripción del empleo

Assistant or Associate Professor of Surgery | Division of General and Gastrointestinal Surgery

Primary Clinical Location: Loma Linda University Medical Center-Murrieta

The Department of Surgery at Loma Linda University School of Medicine seeks a board-certified or board-eligible general surgeon for a faculty appointment based primarily at Loma Linda University Medical Center-Murrieta (LLUMC-Murrieta). The surgeon will develop an elective general surgery practice and participate in Murrieta Emergency General Surgery (MEGS) call at the Murrieta campus, combining community-based clinical practice with the educational and scholarly resources of an academic department.

The successful candidate will join an established multidisciplinary team of Department of Surgery surgeons practicing at Murrieta in general and gastrointestinal surgery, acute care surgery, surgical oncology, breast surgical oncology, and colon and rectal surgery, with advanced practice provider support.

Clinical Practice
  • Build and maintain a broad scope of elective general surgery practice that includes minimally invasive and robotic procedures as appropriate to training and privileges.
  • Collaborate with existing surgical faculty and multidisciplinary clinical teams to improve access, continuity, quality, and patient outcomes.
  • Participate in hospital and departmental quality assurance, patient safety, peer review, and performance improvement activities.
  • Participate in MEGS call and provide operative and perioperative care for acute surgical conditions at LLUMC-Murrieta.
  • Participate in coverage of elective patients admitted postoperatively to the inpatient setting by division faculty.
  • Participate in occasional General and Gastrointestinal Surgery call coverage on the main campus.

LLUMC-Murrieta is a university-owned, community-based hospital with approximately 160 beds, 12 intensive care beds, six operating rooms, and a da Vinci Xi robotic system. The Department’s emergency general surgery (MEGS) service provides coverage for approximately 42 weeks annually, with seven-day advanced practice provider support.

Academic and Educational Opportunities

As a Loma Linda University School of Medicine faculty member, the surgeon will participate in Department of Surgery didactics, conferences, grand rounds, faculty development, and academic quality initiatives, with engagement tailored to the primary Murrieta practice location.

The position includes opportunities to teach and mentor Family Medicine residents training at the Murrieta campus through surgical consultations, perioperative education, and interdisciplinary care. As programs evolve, the surgeon may contribute to the development of surgical rotations and training experiences for medical students and General Surgery residents from the main Loma Linda University campus. Such expansion is a future opportunity rather than a current requirement.

Faculty may participate in clinical and outcomes research, quality improvement scholarship, and collaborative investigations across Loma Linda University Health. Global Surgery opportunities are available through the Loma Linda University Center for Global Surgery.
