Job description

Position Overview

The Department of Surgery at Loma Linda University School of Medicine is seeking a fellowship‑trained surgical oncologist to join the team as an Assistant or Associate Professor of Surgery. The role will be based primarily at the main campus in Loma Linda, with a portion of service performed in Apple Valley, CA. Candidates will work collaboratively with the Division Chief and other faculty members across the university’s academic cancer program and affiliated community cancer centers.

Responsibilities

• Manage patients with a wide variety of complex general surgical oncology conditions through definitive surgical treatment, including gastrointestinal, endocrine, and hepatopancreatobiliary resections such as the Whipple procedure.

• Utilize nine robotic platforms (dual‑V and da Vinci Xi) for surgical procedures and support multidisciplinary care with Advanced Endoscopy, Interventional Radiology, and peritoneal surface malignancy programs.

• Conduct clinical research, participate in clinical trials, and contribute to the division’s research agenda.

• Educate medical students, residents, and fellows through teaching, mentorship, and oversight of the ACGME‑accredited Complex General Surgical Oncology fellowship and international surgical oncology fellowship programs.

• Engage in community outreach and global surgical training initiatives, including formal teaching of international candidates to address surgical oncology workforce deficiencies in low‑ and middle‑income countries.

Qualifications

• Fellowship training in general surgical oncology.

• Current board certification and state licensure in surgery.

• Demonstrated commitment to research and education with a record of faculty or clinical publication preferred.

• Ability to travel and provide service at a distance of 48 miles from the main campus.

Benefits & Compensation

Base compensation range is $325,000 – $428,000, adjusted based on experience and faculty rank. Variable compensation and productivity incentives are not included in this range and are addressed during the recruitment process.
