General Superintendent/Assistant Resident Engineer

Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a General Superintendent/Assistant Resident Engineer with 5 or more years of experience to join our construction management team working on projects within the NYC Metropolitan Area. This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual to join our team locally, supported by a highly qualified municipal consulting firm. You will utilize your experience in construction management, municipal infrastructure, building systems including MEP, site development, and general civil/structural work to assist the Arcadis team in overseeing the construction of a new boiler building at a NYCHA development in Brooklyn, NY. You will work under the supervision of the Assistant Project Manager/Resident Engineer.

Role accountabilities:

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

1. Assist with managing the firm’s daily construction management services, including resident engineering, inspection, and oversight of the general contractor’s performance and progress.
2. Manage and mentor inspection staff, monitor contractor work, performance, quality, schedule, and safety, and ensure timely delivery of inspection reports.
3. Review and manage sub-consultants’ invoices for accuracy.
4. Support management and mentoring of field office staff responsible for record keeping, correspondence, meetings, reporting, and other deliverables.
5. Engage proactively with the contractor’s planning and execution to resolve issues.
6. Review the contractor’s CPM schedule, updates, and related documentation; provide analysis and comments.
7. Assist with change order processes, including preparation, estimation, and negotiation.
8. Coordinate with design staff on RFIs, shop drawings, and issue resolution.
9. Communicate with Program Management, NYCHA Asset and Capital Management, and other stakeholders to resolve project issues.
10. Review construction plans and specifications for constructability.
11. Oversee contractor efforts related to site safety, permit compliance, and coordination with agencies.
12. Monitor contractor performance and responsiveness.
13. Influence contractor to meet project goals regarding cost, schedule, and quality.
14. Assist with contractor payments and adjustments.
15. Lead contract and project meetings using effective communication skills.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required:

• At least 5 years of experience, including 2 years as a General Superintendent/Assistant Resident Engineer for NYC public agencies.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction, or related field.
• Proficiency with construction software like eBuilder and MS Office Suite.

Preferred:

• NY Professional Engineer License.
• CCM certification.
