Qualifications

• At least 10 years of progressively responsible heavy civil, tunnel, deep foundation, or major infrastructure construction experience.

Brayman Construction is hiring a full-time General Superintendent to support all Construction Activities at the newly awarded ALCOSAN Ohio River Tunnel Project. This large scale, long-term project is designed to reduce combined sewer overflows (CSO) and includes challenging near-surface work in congested urban environments, where successful execution will require careful planning around existing utilities, limited work areas, public access, traffic control, and coordination with multiple project stakeholders. This role requires strong field leadership, the ability to manage complex utility restrictions and constructability challenges, and rigorous safety oversight. JOB SUMMARY

The General Superintendent is responsible for overall field execution of the ALCOSAN Ohio River Tunnel Project and will lead, manage, and oversee project-wide construction work plans, field operations, sequencing, safety, quality, manpower, equipment, and productivity. This role serves as the senior field leader for the entire project and will have multiple Superintendents reporting directly to them across major scopes of work, including near-surface construction, shafts, support of excavation, utility relocations and protections, access improvements, site logistics, and surface-level civil work in dense urban settings. The General Superintendent works closely with project management and executive leadership to ensure the project remains aligned with company goals, Owner requirements, safety expectations, quality standards, schedule commitments, and workmanship standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides overall field leadership for the entire project and directly oversees multiple Superintendents, field staff, craftworkers, and subcontractors across assigned scopes of work.
• Leads project-wide field planning, work schedules, manpower assignments, equipment planning, and coordination between Superintendents to support safe, efficient, and productive execution of the work.
• Establishes and enforces project-wide safety expectations, work planning requirements, and field leadership standards through the Superintendent team.
• Oversees coordination of near-surface construction activities in congested urban areas, including limited laydown space, restricted access, pedestrian and traffic interfaces, and coordination with adjacent properties and public agencies.
• Leads the field team in identifying, communicating, and managing complex utility restrictions, including overhead and underground utilities, utility protection requirements, relocation sequencing, shutdown coordination, and work limitations around active infrastructure.
• Coordinates project-wide work sequencing through the Superintendent team and with project management, engineering, subcontractors, utility owners, municipal representatives, inspectors, and other stakeholders to minimize impacts to project schedule, surrounding infrastructure, and the public.

• Helps develop schedules, work plans and productions during the bidding process and will monitor work plans and productions in the field after project award.

• Coordinates hiring plans, manpower loading, movement schedules of operational employees, and equipment needs across the project in alignment with project leadership and regional operations.

• Ensures compliance with safety plans, work plans and project specifications and monitors the performance of craftworkers and employees.
• Trains and develops employees within current and future roles to meet both employee and company growth.

• Works closely with project management and executive leadership to develop project execution strategies, staffing plans, equipment plans, budgets, and employee capacity needs.

• Ensures specifications and regulations outlined in architectural and engineering plans are followed.
• Confirms required permits and licenses are obtained; executes construction contracts according to terms of agreement.
• Monitors budgets throughout the assigned projects and communicates variances as they occur.
• Addresses any safety violations or other deficiencies.
• Processes timesheets related to activities performed each given day for employees and equipment.
• Conducts daily Tool Box Talks and JSA's and weekly safety inspections of the overall site.
• Ensures proper equipment is being used onsite for all functions of the work.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Ability to lead independently, solve complex field problems, and provide clear direction to multiple Superintendents, crews, and subcontractors across a large project.
• Ability to oversee and coordinate a large field leadership team, including Superintendents responsible for separate scopes, shifts, work areas, and subcontracted activities.

• Ability to recognize skilled and unskilled trade talents and weaknesses.
• Ability to read, understand, and execute blueprints, drawings, and plans.
• Thorough understanding of legal requirements relating to construction sites.
• Thorough understanding of quality construction practices.

• Strong understanding of near-surface construction logistics, utility coordination, temporary works, support of excavation, access constraints, and sequencing in active urban environments.

• Ability to quickly identify problems and efficiently solve them.
• Ability to work well under pressure.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Extremely detail-oriented.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• At least 10 years of progressively responsible heavy civil, tunnel, deep foundation, geotechnical, or major infrastructure construction experience is required, including experience leading multiple Superintendents, multiple trades, and numerous craft personnel on large, complex projects.
• Demonstrated experience serving as the senior field leader on a large project, with responsibility for coordinating Superintendents, field engineers, subcontractors, craft labor, equipment, schedule, safety, and productivity across multiple active work fronts.
• Experience managing construction activities in congested urban work zones with complex utility restrictions, limited site access, traffic control requirements, and coordination with utility owners or public agencies is strongly preferred.

• Experience with contracts, specifications, reports and records is required.
• Experience with trade supervision including performance evaluations.
• Experience with hiring, supervising, and assisting in training of union trades.
• OSHA 30-hour certification is required to be obtained.

This is a Safety Sensitive Position requiring work on project sites, including federal projects, dense urban work zones, and heavy construction environments with various safety hazards which are potentially life-threatening to the employee. This position may require working at heights, in confined spaces, around heavy equipment, around high voltage, near active utilities, adjacent to traffic or pedestrian areas, and under constantly changing circumstances. This position may also entail project site work at night and on weekends on an as needed basis. This position will be subject to more stringent drug testing and compliance policies associated with our status as a federal contractor.
