The role focuses on language arts, math, social studies and SEL, within a rigorous dual curriculum and values-driven environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Teaching certification preferred.
  • 3+ years of lower school teaching experience recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment aligned to curriculum.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver lessons for lower school students.
  • Communicate learning targets and success criteria to students.
  • Instruct and monitor use of learning materials and equipment.

Summary

The Lower School General Studies Teacher will plan, organize, and implement the Scheck Hillel instructional program in a primary or elementary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their individual academic and social-emotional potential. Specifically, this position is designed to implement and realize the Scheck Hillel educational vision for students & faculty.

The ideal candidate will have a growth mindset, a strong background in education and a genuine love for teaching children. The Lower School General Studies Teacher will be responsible for teaching students in the Lower School a variety of subjects and skills, including social-emotional learning, language arts, math, and social studies.

Responsibilities
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes learning and encourages student engagement colleagues to ensure a cohesive and effective curriculum.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning that meet the needs of all learners.
  • Communicate clear learning targets & success criteria to students for all learning activities.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Develop formative and summative assessments in accordance with established procedures.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom to facilitate learning.
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development as required by laws and school policies.
  • Communicate consistently and in a timely manner with parents on their child’s academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements.
  • Maintain safety & security of the students in the classroom and common school areas.
  • Supervise students at various school functions such as field and overnight trips, school assemblies.
  • Supervise lunch and recess.
  • Support the team with carpool and dismissal procedures.
  • Stay up-to-date on current educational trends and research to continually improve teaching practices
Qualifications
  • Dedication to creating a nurturing and challenging learning environment for our students
  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field; Master's degree preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years teaching experience in a lower school setting
  • Valid teaching certification, preferred
  • Strong knowledge of pedagogical practices and learning theories
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
