General Practice Dentistry Preceptor (part time) - School of Dental Medicine

Job Summary

The General Practice Dentistry Preceptor is responsible for providing students with training in diagnosis, treatment planning, sequencing, and the actual treatment of assigned patients. The position allows for up to 20 hours of work per week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advising students on consultations across various dental specialties.
  • Following LECOM SDM standards and clinic manual guidelines.
  • Supervising dental students in the LECOM Dental Group Practices.
  • Using excellent communication and interpersonal skills to instruct students in patient data assessment for diverse populations.
  • Providing clinical training in disciplines such as Oral Diagnosis, Surgery, Endodontics, Periodontics, Restorative Dentistry, Prosthodontics, Pediatrics, Orthodontics, and Geriatrics.
  • Attending professional meetings approved by SDM.
  • Supervising and managing a 10-15 chair patient practice area.
  • Collaborating with faculty and students to maintain patient flow.
  • Receiving and executing assignments from the Assistant Dean of Clinical Education or other management staff.
  • Participating in student success initiatives, community outreach, and scholarly activities.
  • Contributing to institutional fundraising and scholarship activities.
  • Performing other duties as assigned to meet practice needs.
Job Requirements
  • Possess necessary knowledge and skills to perform essential functions, with or without accommodations.
  • Experience with axiUm or similar dental computer systems.
  • Knowledge of patient relations, scheduling, ADA coding, HIPAA, FERPA, OSHA, and safety protocols.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and data entry skills.
  • Certified in the Institutional Data System.
  • Proficient in diagnosis and treatment planning in general dentistry.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, work cooperatively, and accept work directives.
Minimum Qualifications

DDS or DMD degree required; teaching experience preferred. Minimum five years of general dentistry practice, with advanced training in GPR or AEGD programs preferred. Must hold or be eligible for a Pennsylvania dental license.
