General Mechanics are assigned to various programs and areas, some requiring specialized knowledge as indicated by a parenthetic. Those with a parenthetic perform the same duties as general mechanics but also have responsibilities in a specific field, requiring substantial expertise. This position is considered essential personnel.
Under supervision, the General Mechanic (Electrician) performs journeyman work in the electrical trade, including skilled and semi-skilled maintenance duties. Responsibilities align with standards set by the National Guard Bureau (NGB), agency, and labor contracts. The role may report to state or federal supervisors.
This position is covered under New York State Military Law, not in the Civil Service. Current Civil Service employees will lose their classified status upon appointment. The starting salary is $50,425, with a job rate of $61,548. An annual adjustment of $2,000 is provided at Stewart ANGB.
