Job summary

Parallel is seeking a General Mechanic at the Franklin Cultivation & Production Facility in Massachusetts. You will maintain building systems, perform preventive maintenance, and diagnose/repair mechanical and electrical issues.

The role requires 3+ years of maintenance experience, blueprints literacy, and CMMS familiarity. Benefits include comprehensive medical, 401(k) and time‑off options. This is a full‑time on‑site position.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a maintenance vocational/technical school or an apprenticeship.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in operation, repair and maintenance of building structures, systems, and equipment.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Experience with CMMS systems.
  • Proficiency with test meters and diagnostic equipment.
  • Valid government-issued photo ID.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all personal, facility, and department safety standards are met.
  • Operate, install, and maintain building electrical, heating, ventilation, overhead doors, and other mechanical systems including their controls.
  • Analyze problems with equipment, make repairs and test for correct results.
  • Assure proper operation of pumps, engines, motors, conveyors, compressors, and laboratory equipment.
  • Repair existing structures according to work orders or verbal instructions.
  • Perform basic plumbing work and electrical work.
  • Practice preventive maintenance on electronic test equipment and tools.
  • Support Facilities Maintenance with other essential duties as assigned.

Location: Franklin Cultivation & Production Facility

Schedule Requirements: 4 day work week with 40 hours per week. Sunday through Thursday, 12:00PM - 8:30PM.

The General Mechanic ensures all personal, facility, and department safety standards are met. Operates, installs, and maintains components which make up the building as well as the building’s electrical, heating, ventilation, overhead doors, and other mechanical systems including their controls, but within the limits of their defined skill.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Ensure all personal, facility, and department safety standards are met.
  • Operate, install, and maintain building electrical, heating, ventilation, overhead doors, and other mechanical systems including their controls.
  • Analyze problems with equipment, make repairs and test for correct results.
  • Assure the proper operation of a wide variety of mechanical machines and devices including pumps, engines, motors, conveyors, compressors, and laboratory equipment.
  • Repair existing structures according to work orders or verbal instructions by inspecting the work site to determine the materials, equipment, tool requirements, and method to be used.
  • Perform basic plumbing work by repairing existing plumbing and pipelines, replacing washers in valves, installing plumbing fixtures.
  • Perform basic electrical work.
  • Practice preventive maintenance in maintaining electronic test equipment and mechanical tools.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the Facilities Maintenance Department by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Experience And Skills You'll Bring

Required

  • Age 21 or over
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Government‑Issued Photo ID
  • Completion of a maintenance vocational/technical school or an apprenticeship program
  • Minimum 3 years experience in the operation, repair and maintenance of building structures, systems, and equipment
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Previous experience with CMMS systems
  • Proficient in the use of test meters and diagnostic equipment

Preferred

  • Journeyman Class B, Systems Contractor Class C, or Systems Technician Class D.
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of motors, electrical controls, lighting, gas systems and building systems.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, changing, and challenging environment
  • Exposure to bright light where eye protection is required
  • Exposure to cannabis odor
  • Exposure to skin contact with plants, to which some individuals may be allergic
  • Exposure to moderate heat and humidity
  • Must be able to sit, stand and perform repetitive actions with your hands for long periods of time
  • Must be able to see color to discern color‑coded wiring
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time
  • Prolonged periods standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders or scaffolding

PAY TRANSPARENCY NOTICE

In compliance with Massachusetts pay transparency laws, the pay range for this position is $24.99 to $33.66 per hour (Pay Grade S10). Compensation within this range will be based on skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
