Job summary

Alcoa Massena Operations in New York seeks a skilled general mechanic to install, repair, weld, and layout work from blueprints, fabricate and troubleshoot complex machinery.

You will work with piping systems, pumps, conveyors, and production equipment such as reduction cells, cranes, and furnaces; reading drawings is essential. Willingness to work rotating shifts and weekends is required; visa sponsorship not available.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Valid NYS Journeyperson mechanical license or similar certification preferred.
• Ability to read blueprints/layout drawings and interpret layouts.
• Proven mechanical ability with welding, fabrication, and machine repair.
• Willing to work rotating shifts including weekends; authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, weld, prepare and layout work from blueprints and layouts.
• Fabricate, maintain and troubleshoot machinery including piping and conveyors.
• Work on equipment such as aluminum reduction cells, cranes and furnaces.
• Coordinate with other trades to perform repair operations.

At Alcoa Massena Operations, general mechanics install, repair, weld, prepare and layout work from blueprints, fabricate, maintain, and troubleshoot machinery and equipment including, piping systems, pumps, conveyor type systems, and work on various types of production equipment including aluminum reduction cells, cranes and furnaces.

Qualifications:

• Possess a High School degree or GED
• Valid NYS Journeyperson mechanical license or similar mechanic certification
• Ability to read layout drawings and blueprints
• Proven mechanical ability involving welding, fabricating, machinery installation, alignment, rigging, machining and the ability to work with precision to within a thousandth of an inch. Good observational skills to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair machine problems are important
• Work from shop orders, blueprints, sketches and/or verbal information to layout, setup and operate metal working equipment such as shears, brake, rolls, drill press, power saws, welding machines, spot welders, etc. and use a regular range of hand tools to fabricate, repair and build iron work products
• Perform complicated mechanical repair or rebuild tasks on equipment
• Work with and provide assistance to other trades in performing repair operations
• Possess an excellent work history, preferably in a manufacturing environment
• Be willing to work any shift, including rotating shifts and weekends
• Be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available
• Be willing to take a proficiency exam

Standard rate: $37.71 USD per hour
You may be eligible for variable performance pay, overtime, premium pay, and additional payments per the collective bargaining agreement provisions.
