Job summary

Tiello LLC partners with an established Civil Contractor in the Greater Phoenix area to recruit a General Manager for Underground Utility Construction. The role leads a high-performing team across underground pipelines, wet utilities, and heavy civil projects.

You will drive safety, quality, and financial performance while mentoring project managers and engineers to deliver on time and within budget.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in the construction industry with 5+ years leading teams.
• Experience focused on Underground Utilities, Wet Utilities, Heavy Civil projects.
• Strong leadership, client management and budget oversight capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Right-hand person to the Owner, driving success and team growth.
• Enforce safety, quality control, compliance, and process standards.
• Lead contract negotiations and major agreements to protect company interests.
• Manage annual budgets, forecasts and performance metrics.
• Maintain and grow stakeholder relationships for partnerships.
• Mentor project managers, superintendents, estimators and engineers.
• Monitor project performance and implement corrective actions when needed.
• Collaborate with preconstruction for bids, estimates and risk.

Company Overview:

TIELLO has partnered with an established Specialty Civil Contractor in the Greater Phoenix Arizona Area on their search for a General Manager (Underground Utility Construction) to support and lead their Underground Utility Construction Operations specifically in the Phoenix Area.

Role Summary:

The ideal candidate will have 12+ years of experience in the Construction Industry, preferably Underground Utility, Civil, or Heavy Civil Construction Industry and will be responsible for helping lead a highly successful team, driving and pushing them to achieve milestones, grow, and deliver for clients.

Job Responsibilities:

• Right-hand person to the Owner, driving success of the team, motivating the office and personnel to grow and deliver
• Enforce company-wide standards for safety, quality control, compliance, and processes across all field operations
• Lead contract negotiations and major agreements to ensure company interests and mitigate risk
• Manage and oversee annual budgets, forecasts, and performance
• Maintain and grow stakeholder relationships to expand existing partnerships and lead to new ones
• Mentor and develop project managers, superintendents, estimators, engineers to continue growing and developing the Company
• Monitor performance of projects and implement corrective actions when needed for delays, scope changes, cost overruns, etc.
• Work with preconstruction teams to ensure accurate bid strategies, estimates, and risk assessments
• Lead dispute resolution efforts for contract negotiations, change orders, claims, etc, in a professional and positive manner, allowing for relationships to grow and expand

Skills & Qualification:

• 12+ years experience - including 5+ managing teams and divisions within the Construction Industry
• Experience with work focused on Underground Utilities, Wet Utilities, Heavy Civil Projects, Sewer, Storm, Water, Earthworks, Excavations is a plus
• People person, highly motivated, self driven, client facing, and able to drive and motivate a team of Project Managers, Superintendents, Estimators, and Engineers
• Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related preferred, or equivalent field experience.
