Job summary

Canastota Dairy Products LLC in Canastota, NY is seeking a General Manager to lead manufacturing operations and support the sales and delivery of dairy products. You will provide strategic and operational leadership to meet production objectives, quality standards, cost targets, and regulatory requirements.

This role may manage directly or through supervisors, coordinating with functions and suppliers to optimize resources, improve processes, and ensure on-time delivery.

Qualifications

• Experience in a medium-volume dairy processing/manufacturing environment.
• Minimum HS education or GED required.
• 5+ years in dairy processing/manufacturing operations.
• Experience leading a 24/7 manufacturing operation.
• Strong budgeting and capital project experience.
• Ability to build and lead cross-functional teams and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain manufacturing operations business plans addressing program requirements, labor hours, production cycles, costs and objectives.
• Provide input into product strategy and R&D of new products.
• Establish production and quality-control standards; develop budgets and cost controls.
• Ensure data collection on product types, quantities, specs, and delivery requirements.
• Guide manufacturing process plans including personnel, material, subcontractors, facilities, tooling, and equipment.
• Ensure cost, quality, production, and delivery commitments are met.
• Coordinate activities with other functions and suppliers to optimize resources.
• Review production reports and resolve operational, manufacturing, and maintenance issues.
• Oversee administrative shop operations data management.
• Define staff responsibilities and establish accountability for performance.
• Provide leadership for achievement of objectives and adherence to policies.
• Ensure compliance with dairy processing regulations, environmental standards, and safety.
• Promote communication across shifts and departments about performance and priorities.
• Assist with design, improvement, and installation of equipment to boost plant efficiency.
• Other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

The General Manager is responsible for leading manufacturing operations and supporting the sales and delivery of company products. This position provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure production objectives, quality standards, cost targets, delivery commitments, regulatory requirements, and effective utilization of people, equipment, and facilities are achieved. The General Manager may perform these responsibilities directly or through subordinate supervisors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain manufacturing operations business plans addressing program requirements, labor hours, production cycles, production costs, and operational objectives.
• Provide input into product strategy and the research and development of new and emerging products.
• Establish production and quality-control standards; develop budgets and cost controls; and ensure appropriate production data is collected regarding product types, quantities, specifications, and delivery requirements.
• Guide the development of manufacturing process plans, including personnel requirements, material needs, subcontractor requirements, facility needs, tooling, and equipment.
• Ensure established cost, quality, production, and delivery commitments are consistently achieved.
• Coordinate manufacturing activities with other organizational functions and suppliers to optimize production and the effective utilization of employees, machinery, and equipment.
• Review production and operating reports and direct the resolution of operational, manufacturing, and maintenance issues to minimize costs and prevent delays.
• Oversee administrative activities associated with effective shop operations, including the compilation, storage, retrieval, and reporting of production data.
• Define organizational and staff responsibilities necessary to achieve business objectives and establish accountability for operational performance.
• Provide leadership for the successful attainment of production objectives, implementation of company policies, and effective utilization of available resources and facilities.
• Ensure compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements related to dairy processing, environmental standards, workplace safety, and working conditions.
• Promote effective communication across shifts and departments by maintaining established methods for communicating company performance, operational priorities, and safety information.
• Assist with the design, improvement, and installation of equipment and systems to increase plant efficiency and address operational needs.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• High School education or GED
• At least five years of experience in a medium-volume dairy processing/manufacturing environment.
• Proven experience in operations management or a related field.
• Experience managing a 24/7 (7 days per week, 24 hours per day) manufacturing operation.
• Experience managing multiple operational functions, including projects, processing, filling, and packaging.
• Demonstrated experience with budgeting and operational planning.
• Experience developing and executing capital projects.
• Demonstrated ability to build and lead effective functional teams in a collaborative work environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage employees and stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
• Knowledge of PMO and applicable regulatory guidelines, with experience interacting with federal and state government representatives.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor's degree (AA/BS) preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.

Strong background in strategic planning, capital project management, and business development.
