General Manager

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to join our team as a General Manager for our location in Columbus, IN. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing daily operations, on-site training, and providing leadership support to ensure smooth operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in restaurant operations, hospitality management, and leadership.

This position requires outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written, the ability to develop strong relationships, and implement effective solutions. The candidate must be highly organized, strategic, and capable of managing multiple priorities with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Ongoing goals include maximizing efficiency and profitability through system adherence; maintaining a professional, engaged staff; developing community relationships through off-premise events and philanthropic initiatives; and enhancing restaurant marketing via social media presence and community exposure opportunities. The ability to multitask, pay attention to detail, and see tasks through to completion is essential.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise and oversee employees and vendors to operate the restaurant.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
The key functions include, but are not limited to:

Provide superior leadership:

  • Motivate and inspire staff by setting achievable goals; providing supervision, accountability, and recognition; leading by example.
  • Ensure a top-notch dining experience with fresh, local food; develop a well-trained staff capable of describing and selling menu items; create a unique dining environment that stimulates customer loyalty and purchases.
  • Establish a management team that fosters positive communication and accountability.

Restaurant Operations

  • Manage daily operations by improving processes, monitoring floor and kitchen activities, security, and responding promptly to communications.
  • Meet financial goals by establishing controls, managing costs, increasing revenues, and preparing financial reports.
  • Maintain high service standards by monitoring food, beverage, and service quality; training staff; and building relationships with preferred customers.
  • Ensure accountability by monitoring staff checklists, roles, and maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Oversee facilities maintenance, permits, safety, and sanitation standards to ensure a safe and compliant environment.
  • Uphold administrative standards by responding to customer inquiries and complaints efficiently.

People Management

  • Achieve company objectives by recruiting top talent, training, coaching, and managing staff performance.
  • Optimize labor by employing skilled workers, adjusting schedules based on customer volume, and communicating site promotions and policies effectively.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with Indiana ATC/Excise laws and hold staff accountable.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of the restaurant menu and Upland's food philosophy.
