We are seeking a successful General Manager for our Zero Waste Anaerobic Digestion Facility and Z-Best composting facility to join our team and help provide a successful work environment where our employees can be safe, thrive, and give their personal best each day. This position is expected to work at 685 Los Esteros Rd. in San Jose, with some job-related travel may be required.

Position Summary :

GreenWaste is seeking to fill the position of General Manager to support a couple of facilities. The main functions include managing the performance of day-to-day operations of the Anaerobic Digestion and Composting facilities. The General Manager is responsible for all aspects of facility management, including supervising and scheduling personnel, maintaining and operating all facility equipment and processes, managing expenses and budgets, and ensuring the overall safety of employees, contractors, and visitors.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities :

Functional Leadership

  • Translate priorities into initiatives and actions that will deliver performance objectives.
  • Ensure alignment, ownership, and accountability across field business units.

Operations :

  • Meet and work with all enforcement regulatory agencies.
  • Drive standardization to reduce acquisition and maintenance costs and complexity.
  • Ensure AD and compost facilities meet all Federal and State Regulations, OSHA, and local requirements.
  • Monitor budgets and operating metrics while optimizing processes, procedures, and performance.
  • Maintain and update all environmental permits necessary for operation.
  • Ensure all equipment, structures, and infrastructure are maintained and repaired timely and efficiently.
  • Oversee feedstock management, process controls, and compost quality.
  • Work with feedstock suppliers to ensure consistent production and material flow.
  • Communicate regularly with CALISO on kilowatt energy production.
  • Schedule major maintenance on CHP engines and other technology throughout the facility.
  • Monitor gas sensors throughout the facility to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Manage relationships with outside contractors through clear communication and setting realistic expectations.

Staff Management :

  • Responsible for workforce training and development through proper guidance and coaching.
  • Determine workflow, staffing, and monitor equipment operations and maintenance, fostering a teamwork environment.
  • Oversee personnel needs including hiring, coaching, disciplining, training, and performance evaluations. Provide input on termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
  • Participate in weekly and monthly staff and safety meetings.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Knowledge of composting methods, regulations, quality control, and environmental considerations.
  • Ability to handle odors, dust, or other environmental or weather-related events.
  • Understanding of AD facility controls and computer systems.
  • Knowledge of bacterial fermentation processes and biogas production.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information quickly.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy of information.
  • Excellent people skills, collaboration, and educational abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365, including SharePoint.
  • Ability to work with executives, management, employees, government agencies, and the community.
  • Strong understanding of business operations.
  • Ability to handle high-stress workload and crisis situations.

Qualifications :

  • Valid Class C License
  • 5+ years management experience
  • 10+ years solid waste industry experience

Language Skill :

  • Proficient in English (verbal and written); Spanish familiarity is highly favorable.

Physical Demands :

  • Ability to lift, push, and pull objects up to 20 lbs.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and desk work for 6-10 hours daily.
  • Capable of wearing safety gear including hard hats, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots.

Work involves exposure to industrial environments with temperature, noise, and physical condition variations. Flexibility in work hours, including extended hours, on-call, and weekends, is required to support operations. Personal protective equipment is mandatory, and safety, efficiency, and operational excellence are priorities.
