Job description

The General Manager of FGSRC embraces the history and traditions of the Club while ensuring it remains relevant and positioned for a successful future. The GM oversees all activities relating to its members, guests, and employees. The GM reports directly to the Board and serves at the will of the Board. The GM is responsible for the efficient and effective operation of the Club. The GM provides careful and consistent financial direction. He or she leads the staff in operating the Club with the upmost professionalism and an engaged commitment to hospitality; thus, ensuring maximum member and guest participation, engagement, and satisfaction.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE STRONG SKILL SETS IN THE FOLLOWING:

Management: The GM is the primary coordinator of hiring, training, managing, and when necessary, discipline of employees. Coordinate and participate in providing meaningful input in employee reviews; assign and periodically re-evaluate employee's job functions with the objective of maximizing efficiency; monitor and measure employees’ performance of their job functions; ensure effective and efficient staffing; recognize and effectively manage potential human resource issues, and report them to the Board; ensure the Employee Handbook is current and enforced; oversee the operation and scheduling of the Café, Special Events, Kid's Club, the Front Desk, Tennis, Swim, and Fitness programs.

Membership: It is critical that the GM understands the local market and economy, to maintain full membership levels, and to prioritize member experience and engagement. The GM must be comfortable and competent in being an integral part of developing relationships that may lead to membership interest and/ or business opportunities (banquets/ events), and in effectively orienting new members so that their initial experience with the Club results in its habitual use. Ensure the Club's By- Laws and Ground Rules are being complied with.

Communication: The GM must be an exceptional communicator, have adroit interpersonal skills and have the maturity to instinctively know how to make members and guests feel that they are consistently treated in a welcoming and gracious manner. Further, he or she must be able to communicate these expectations to staff with diverse backgrounds and promote buy-in, so they understand and execute those expectations. In addition, the GM must possess strong working ability with technology, electronic communications, and social media to be used for website, newsletters, marketing, and internal communications.

Visibility: The GM is expected to be highly visible, present at the Club as its "face," and managing operations during regular business hours as well as during evenings and weekend club functions and events. Sincere and visibly engaged leadership is paramount to success in this position.

Financial: The GM must possess strong financial acumen. In addition to coordinating and supervising the management and administrative functions of the Club, the GM will oversee and work with the Finance committee for preparation of the annual operating and capital budgets, supporting the strategic and tactical initiatives that he or she has established with the Board. The GM will facilitate, monitor, and maintain financial record keeping by the Club's contracted accounting firm, have the ability to read, understand, and communicate about the Club's financial statements; monitor costs and identify opportunities for cost savings whenever appropriate; review and maintain payroll costs; develop and implement long- term financial plans.

Facilities: Ensure the effective, safe, and efficient use and operation of the Club, its facilities, and its equipment; manage, maintain, and repair Club property; monitor the performance and use of the Club property, including the grounds, facility, and equipment.

Board: Take direction from the Board; obtain and provide information to assist the Board; make recommendations and report to the Board; assist the Club President and Board in the conduct of regular Board meetings, attend Board and committee meetings, maintain records including agendas and minutes; have close familiarity with the Club's By- Laws and Ground Rules.

Legal: Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local law and governance; ensure that all legal obligations are performed, monitor all contracts, identify, and notify Board of any potential legal risks.
