There presently exist three vacancies for General Maintenance Workers in the Property Management Department. These are permanent, full-time positions located in Duluth, MN. General Maintenance Workers provide janitorial maintenance work at an assigned County facility.
Available Shifts
- 4:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. at the Government Services Building on an assigned floor.
- 4:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. at the Duluth Courthouse on an assigned floor.
- 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the Duluth Jail.
The salary range reflected above is the normal hiring range for 2026. The full salary range, including longevity pay, is $21.28 - $28.75 per hour. Employees working a regular shift commencing between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. shall, in addition to their hourly pay, receive a shift differential equal to $0.90 per hour.

- Sweeps, dusts, damp mops, strips, seals and waxes floors.
- Vacuums, spot cleans and shampoos carpets and rugs.
- Collects and disposes of recycling and trash.
- Cleans windows and window treatments.
- Refills soap, towel and toilet tissue dispensers.
- Cleans and polishes handrails, fixtures and elevators.
- Replaces defective light bulbs.
- Performs thorough cleaning of ceilings, walls and vents as required.
- Performs minor repairs on janitorial equipment, as specified.
- Assists in lifting and relocating office furniture and equipment.
- Removes snow from walks, driveways and parking areas.
- Cleans and sanitizes areas using established practices and procedures.
- Operates light equipment, including skid steers, related to the upkeep and maintenance of buildings and grounds.
- Cleans and maintains equipment; stocks supplies in janitor closets in orderly condition.
- Ensures outside and inside doors are locked and advises supervisor or authorities of suspicious situations.
- Assists maintenance workers and maintenance helpers as assigned.
- Demonstrates punctual and reliable attendance in accordance with designated work schedule.
- Complies with applicable safety rules, laws, and practice; uses proper safety equipment and procedures in all operations.
- Performs related duties as required.

This position is part of the Civil Service Basic Unit Employees Collective Bargaining Agreement represented by Council 5 of AFSCME.
Minimum Qualifications (Pass/Fail)
- High school diploma or its equivalent.
- Six (6) months full-time paid verifiable experience in custodial, janitorial, building maintenance or closely related work.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
