Job DescriptionWorking under general supervision, the performs a variety of indoor and outdoor maintenance tasks on state-owned buildings and grounds. Duties follow assigned schedules and may include both light and heavy maintenance, routine mechanical and equipment repairs, and occasional special projects. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor as needed.Range of Pay: $20.21- $25.05per hour; pay within this range is dependent on education and work experience and internal equity. This position is eligible for Shift Differential: working before 6:00 A.M. or after 6:00 P.M. $2.25 per hour.Minimum QualificationsKnowledge of different types of flooring/floor covering sufficient to determine proper methods of maintenance and appropriate cleaning methods, materials, agents and equipment.Knowledge of chemical cleaning agents such as ammonia, bleaches, scouring agents, and soaps sufficient to appropriately select the agent(s), handle and apply, and dispose of safely.Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance sufficient to use effectively and operate safely and to make minor repairs.Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.Ability to perform assigned tasks with limited work direction.Ability to keep simple records.Preferred QualificationAbility to determine and prioritize duties to be accomplished on a daily basis.The ability to work with diverse cultures and populations.Ability to safely handle and use cleaning chemicals.English (speaking, reading, writing) sufficient to interpret and respond in a clear and concise manner.Mechanical ability to make minor repairs on equipment.Must possess a Class C Boilers license or ability to obtain one within one year.Ability to supervise workstudy and student workers.Basic understanding of heating, cooling, electrical and plumbing systems.Knowledge of Building Operating Control Systems.Basic computer skills.Additional RequirementsPhysical health and endurance sufficient to perform work functions:Requires occasionally lifting articles such as 50-pound maximum and frequently lifting and/or carrying objects such as heavy tools and file boxes. This job may require walking or standing to a significant degree on rough terrain or may involve sitting most of the time with pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.Must possess a current Class D driver?s license.Responsibilities and DutiesMaintains building floors and hallways to provide clean, comfortable, healthy and safe environment using machines or manual processes by sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, waxing, and stripping wax and vacuuming and scrubbing carpets. Cleans windows, skylights, ceilings and walls to maintain clean, comfortable and safe environment by determining appropriate cleaning agents, mixing chemicals, and applying them.Cleans and maintains rooms and furniture to provide clean, safe and usable office, classroom or meeting space by dusting, moving, rearranging, setting up or taking down tables and chairs and making minor repairs to furniture.Cleans restrooms to provide clean, comfortable and sanitary environment by scrubbing floors, sinks, stools; maintaining supplies of soap and paper products and emptying wastebaskets and trash containers.Performs grounds work to enhance the appearance of landscape and maintain health of flowers, plants, shrubs, vines, lawns, and trees by planting, cutting and mowing, raking, seeding, sodding, hedging, trimming, and watering.Cleans sidewalks and parking lots so that orderly appearance and accessibility are ensured by shoveling snow and operating snow blowers, applying sand and/or deicers and removing ice, rubbish and materials.Operates, maintains, and makes minor repairs on vacuums, lawnmowers, snowblowers, trucks, tractors, and other mechanical equipment so that cleaning and maintenance responsibilities are performed timely and efficiently.Picks up paper, aluminum cans, newspapers printouts and other recycled materials by collecting items from bins, moving items to loading docks and preparing for shipment.Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.Other RequirementsIn accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges Universities (Minnesota State) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.A job offer may be contingent upon successfully passing a background check.
