Job description

Butler University seeks a General Maintenance Worker to assist with repairs and projects under the general direction of the Structures Supervisor. This position is scheduled for 1st shift, 7 am - 3:30 pm, with potential for flexible shifts.

Under the supervision of the Structures Supervisor, the General Maintenance Worker repairs cabinets, counters, shelves, tables, and miscellaneous furniture; replaces and repairs doors, closures, and locks; and alters and repairs various building structures such as walls, partitions, doorways, windows, frames, stairways, masonry, and roofs. The role includes installing window glass and screens, applying wall and floor coverings, and installing and repairing ceramic and other tiles. Routine electrical, plumbing, and mechanical repairs may be performed when integral to the repair or installation tasks. The worker also guides less experienced staff.

Responsibilities

  1. Respond to work order requests and project assignments for repairs including walls, ceilings (plaster and tile), doors (interior and exterior), hardware, and windows.
  2. Repair and install flooring such as carpet, VCT, ceramic tile, and wood.
  3. Perform woodwork repairs and installations.
  4. Handle painting, staining, wallcovering repairs, and caulking both indoors and outdoors.
  5. Conduct exterior maintenance, including installing bike racks and trash receptacles, as well as minor masonry and tuckpointing.
  6. Replace damaged paver stones, and perform concrete placement and repairs.
  7. Participate in summer refurbishing of Residence Halls, including bathroom and sleeping area work.
  8. Complete preventative maintenance tasks, such as fire extinguisher checks, roof, and drain cleaning.
  9. Utilize electronic devices including iPads and computers.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2+ years of general maintenance experience
  • Valid Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with academic or historic buildings
  • Lockout/tagout training
