Job summary

The City of Delray Beach is seeking a semi-skilled grounds worker to perform landscape maintenance, cleaning, and building upkeep in city parks and facilities. Under general supervision, you will operate mowers and related equipment, assist in set-up for activities, and help with safety inspections.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of heavy manual labor experience, plus a valid Florida driver’s license.

Semi-skilled manual work in either building, tree trimming operations, and/or ground maintenance activities. Work is performed under general supervision. Does related work as required. Routine manual work is responsible for the overall cleaning of parks and other building restrooms. Performs landscape maintenance, operates vehicles, mowers, and other related equipment. Performs other job-related duties as required. Performs general building maintenance and repairs. Performs safety inspections. Operates cleaning machines, buffer, vacuum cleaner, etc. Sets up chairs and tables for activities and assists in normal cleanup activities. Sweep, mop and scrub floors; wax and polish floors and furniture

Work Schedule is Monday - Friday 6:30 am - 3:00 pm

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Maintain various buildings, grounds and/or parks, cleans, scrapes, paints, etc.


• May spray grounds with insecticides and herbicides.


• May install turf on field, parks and other grounds. Perform litter control functions.


• Perform preventative maintenance functions on the vehicles.


• Make daily written and oral reports.


• May operate vehicles, mowers and other equipment; tree trimming tools, chain saw, clipper, and bucket truck.


• Performs building and ground maintenance activities such as mowing, weeding and general grounds work.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

• Knowledge of landscape maintenance, or tree care and/or turf installation.


• Knowledge of tools and equipment to do related work.


• Ability to perform heavy manual labor under adverse weather conditions.


• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.


• Ability to complete daily work sheets and/or keep records.


• Skill in operation and preventative maintenance of equipment and tools related to the position.


• Knowledge of building and/or grounds maintenance.


• Physical condition, strength and agility commensurate with the demands of the position, occasionally under adverse weather conditions.


• Maintains buildings, cleans, scrapes, paints and performs litter control functions as required.

• High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.


• One-year experience doing heavy manual labor.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS

• Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License with a good driving record.

Knowledge of routine manual work in the cleaning and upkeep of facilities. Knowledge of landscaping and turf maintenance. Ability to perform heavy manual labor under adverse weather conditions, follow written and oral instructions and complete daily worksheets and/or keep records. Skill in operation of equipment and tools related to the position.
