Description

Job Summary: The General Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing a variety of preventative maintenance and general maintenance tasks for buildings, systems, equipment, and machinery. This position requires practical skill and knowledge in trades such as HVAC, carpentry, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, painting, and masonry.

Pay Rate: $30.57 per hour

Shift: Monday - Friday, Day Shift, 40 hours per week

Essential Job Functions:
  • Perform maintenance duties to maintain and repair campus buildings, structures, machinery, and equipment, involving skills in carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, or mechanical trades.
  • Assist in preventative maintenance on large industrial HVAC systems, including rooftop systems, water pumping systems, air moving equipment, chillers, boilers, and cooling towers.
  • Perform tasks such as filter and belt changes, mechanical adjustments, cleaning, greasing/lubricating systems, taking measurements, framing walls, finish carpentry, electrical work, plastering, drywall repair, replacing sinks, painting, repairing floors, replacing paneling, hanging doors, window repairs, roofing, plumbing repairs, water heater maintenance, and more.
  • Respond to facility issues like lighting, power outages, water leaks, and temperature problems.
  • Establish and maintain good communication with customers.
  • Work efficiently, producing quality results.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including work orders and documentation.
  • Support project work which may require extended hours.
  • Complete maintenance requests satisfactorily or refer to specialists when needed.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of buildings and structures.
  • Maintain tools and equipment, including inventory management.
  • Make emergency repairs within area of expertise.
  • Record hours and materials used for each job.
  • Attend training to improve skills in various crafts.
  • Inspect machinery and ensure proper functioning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Skills, Experience, and Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Trade or Vocational School Certification preferred
  • 2-3 years of experience in building trades such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, HVAC, or metalworking
  • Experience with hand and power tools
  • Knowledge of safety and building codes
  • Proficient with basic computer software
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to pass drug screening and background check
  • Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking)
  • Ability to interpret plans and specifications

Equipment Used:

Hand and power tools, vehicles, office equipment (computers, tablets, printers, phones)

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift at least 50 pounds, perform heavy manual labor, work at heights, on roofs, and in confined spaces, travel, and maintain work hours. Endurance for long tasks and climbing ladders is necessary.

Working Environment:

Work is both indoors and outdoors, may involve high noise levels, working on roofs or in confined spaces, and wearing PPE. Willingness to participate in confined space training and certification is required.
