Job Opportunity: General Maintenance Technician - Shipfitter at Patriots Point

The primary responsibility of the General Maintenance Technician - Shipfitter is to perform planned and corrective maintenance and repairs on museum ships, buildings, grounds, and piers. These tasks may include structural repairs such as hull or bulkhead work, museum exhibit construction, or general industry repairs.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Perform maintenance and repairs requiring shipyard skills like welding, oxyacetylene and plasma cutting, grinding, metal preparation, slag cleanup, and painting preparation.
  2. Assist other craftsmen as directed by supervisory staff.
  3. Comply with all safety and environmental regulations, utilizing appropriate safety equipment and tools.
  4. Perform additional duties as assigned to support the agency's mission.
Minimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma and relevant trade experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Familiarity with OSHA standards.
Additional Qualifications:
  • Extensive knowledge of welding, metal fabrication, and construction with various materials.
  • Understanding of safety and environmental standards.
  • Strong mechanical skills with tools and equipment used in museum maintenance.
  • Ability to make emergency repairs and adjustments.
  • Capability to interpret plans and specifications.
  • Ability to work independently using judgment and initiative.
Additional Notes:

Applicants with college credits or degrees should bring transcripts to the interview or upload them with their application. Some areas may require official transcripts before hiring. Shipyard experience is preferred.
