Job summary

Sylvania is seeking a General Maintenance Technician to support school facilities with building and grounds maintenance. The role requires a high school diploma or GED and involves repairing plumbing, electrical systems, and HVAC components, along with routine facility upkeep.

The technician will perform landscape and building maintenance, manage supplies, and comply with safety and district policies. Candidates should be competent with basic computer tasks and be able to work indoors and

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must be computer literate.

Responsibilities

  • Paint, refinish, construct and remodel physical properties of the Employer.
  • Repair and maintain plumbing, electrical systems, hardware, heating and ventilating, furniture and equipment, and general structure.
  • Maintain school roadways, lawns, shrubbery, trees, fencing, drains, playgrounds and their equipment, and athletic fields and their equipment, lawn care and maintenance equipment, including checking fluid levels of maintenance vehicles.
  • Maintain records, inventory supplies, tools and equipment and provide for their safekeeping, as may be required.
  • Possess knowledge of and follow safe working practices in the maintenance trades, as well as knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements if employer-provided training has been completed to the satisfaction of the Employer.

General Maintenance Technician

Hours of Employment: 6:00 am – 2:30 pm (1/2 hour unpaid lunch)

Summer & Winter Hours will vary for the needs of the district.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES

Ability to pass a district written and physical test. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Must be computer literate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms such as to operate vibrating machinery. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climb on to ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.

The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee will sometime push/pull items such as tables, scaffolds, and cabinets. Specific vision abilities required by the job includes close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays and non-household dust. The employee must be able to meet deadlines. Frequently the employee will work alone and must be a self starter.
