Job summary

River Terrace Inn, part of Noble House Hotels & Resorts, in Napa seeks a hands-on Engineering & Maintenance professional to uphold guest comfort and safety. You will maintain guest rooms, public spaces, and back-of-house areas, troubleshoot HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry issues, and manage routine work orders with a focus on uptime.

The role requires 2–3 years in hotel maintenance, the ability to lift 50 pounds, and flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2–3 years of facilities maintenance or hotel engineering.
  • Experience with HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
  • Able to work flexible schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance of hotel facilities and systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting tasks.
  • Complete preventative maintenance per schedules and brand standards.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and guest service calls.
  • Monitor work order completion and communicate issues to management.
  • Provide direction and support to maintenance staff as needed.
  • Lead in Chief Engineer's absence and coordinate with vendors as required.
  • Maintain safety compliance and report major issues to leadership.
  • Ensure life-safety systems remain operational and uptime.

A day in the life...

This position assists the Director of Engineering to keep all equipment in good repair with minimum downtime by providing day-to-day maintenance of the hotel. Complete maintenance work orders from all departments on a timely basis by following hotels standard operating procedures. Continually work towards and support the improvement of engineering service to guests, other departments, and staff.

Engineering & Maintenance Operations
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs throughout the hotel, including guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, and exterior grounds.
  • Troubleshoot and repair plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanical, painting, carpentry, and general building systems.
  • Complete preventative maintenance tasks according to departmental schedules and brand standards.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and guest service calls.
  • Conduct regular inspections of hotel facilities and identify necessary repairs.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
  • Ensure all maintenance work complies with applicable safety regulations and hotel policies.
  • Flexibility on scheduling: weekends, weekdays and holidays based on business needs
Additional Responsibility Includes Leadership & Department Support
  • Serve as the primary backup to the Chief Engineer.
  • Assist with daily department planning and prioritization of maintenance activities.
  • Provide direction and support to maintenance staff as needed.
  • Monitor work order completion and ensure timely follow-up.
  • Communicate facility issues and operational concerns to hotel leadership.
  • Assist in training new maintenance team members on departmental standards and procedures.
Acting Department Manager Responsibilities

When the Chief Engineer is off-property, unavailable, on vacation, or otherwise unable to perform departmental duties, this position will:

  • Assume leadership responsibilities for the Engineering Department.
  • Prioritize and assign daily work orders.
  • Coordinate emergency repairs and facility responses.
  • Serve as the primary engineering contact for hotel leadership.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors as needed.
  • Ensure all life-safety systems remain operational.
  • Communicate major maintenance issues and operational impacts to hotel management.
  • Maintain departmental productivity and service levels.
Guest Service Responsibilities
  • Interact professionally and courteously with guests at all times.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to guest maintenance concerns.
  • Maintain guest privacy and confidentiality while working in occupied rooms.
  • Support the hotel's commitment to exceptional hospitality and guest satisfaction.

Requirements
Qualifications Required
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of facilities maintenance, hotel engineering, or related experience.
  • Working knowledge of:

Preferred
  • Previous hotel engineering experience.
