Job summary

Bethel University is seeking a General Maintenance Technician to maintain campus facilities, buildings, and grounds in a safe, functional, and attractive state. You will perform preventive maintenance, respond to requests, and help ensure a welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and guests.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to safety standards, practices, and procedures at all times.
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain climate control systems and related equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance on building mechanicals; replace pumps, belts, and filters as needed.
  • Carry out minor repairs such as lock work, shelving installation, and light carpentry.
  • Respond to campus maintenance requests and emergencies; participate in on-call rotations.

Job description

Purpose of Position and Scope of Responsibility

The General Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the university's buildings, facilities, and grounds in a safe, functional, and attractive condition. This position performs a variety of preventive maintenance, repair, and general maintenance tasks to support the daily operations of the campus. The General Maintenance Technician contributes to a safe and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors by responding promptly to maintenance requests and ensuring campus facilities are well maintained.

Principal Accountabilities/Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all safety standards, work practices, policies and procedures established by the University, Manager of Facilities, and supervisor.
  • Program, operate, and monitor the performance of the computerized climate control system; perform maintenance and repair of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to ensure proper operation of boilers, pumps, water heaters, air handling units, pneumatic systems, fans, and other related equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance on the various building mechanical systems; repair and/or replacing pumps and motors, change belts and filters, and lubricate various moving parts.
  • Perform maintenance tasks such as minor equipment repairs, lock repair or replacement, install shelves and cabinets, move furniture and equipment, etc.
  • Remove snow and ice from campus areas and walkways; spread salt on walkways entrances
  • On-call responsibilities to respond to heating/cooling system breakdowns or malfunctions, and/or other facility emergencies.
  • Event Set up and break down.
  • Performs related accountabilities/responsibilities as required or directed.

Physical Requirements

Work requires the physical demands of standing, bending, lifting, stooping or performing other work requiring moderate to heavy physical exertion (up to 30 pounds) on an occasional basis (up to 15% of time) and frequent walking; or moderate physical exertion (up to 50 pounds) on an intermittent basis (not a routine part of the job).

Work involves frequent exposure to unpleasant working conditions or undesirable elements, may involve exposure to a variety of elements which are potentially hazardous or harmful which require exercise of well defined precautions for protection from injury or illness.
