Description

The Public Works Technician performs a variety of general maintenance, repair, and upkeep activities throughout the City of Stockbridge. This position helps maintain the City's streets, sidewalks, public facilities, landscaping, grounds, equipment, and other City property. The Technician also supports City and Council events by setting up and breaking down, assists with municipal trash collection, responds to public service concerns, and operates various tools, vehicles, and equipment. The position requires strong teamwork, communication, safety awareness, physical ability, and the flexibility to work both indoors and outdoors.

Major Duties
  • Street and Sidewalk Maintenance - Patch potholes, perform concrete and asphalt work, and help maintain and repair streets, sidewalks, and curbs.
  • Equipment and Tool Operations - Operate and maintain trucks, trailers, power tools, and other equipment used for Public Works maintenance and repair activities.
  • City Facilities and Property Maintenance - Maintain and clean public facilities, buildings, grounds, landscaping, and other City-owned property to keep them safe, clean, and well maintained.
  • City and Council Events Support - Coordinate, set up, and break down tables, chairs, tents, and other equipment for City events, Council initiatives, and public gatherings.
  • Public Service and Customer Relations - Communicate professionally with residents, City employees, Elected Officials, and the public to address customer service concerns and maintenance-related issues.
  • Safety, Teamwork, and Municipal Operations - Follows proper safety and equipment operating procedures, works effectively as part of a team, and supports overall Public Works operations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Public Works and general maintenance practices.
  • Safe operation and maintenance of tools, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Operating power tools, vehicles, and maintenance equipment.
  • Basic street, sidewalk, landscaping, and grounds maintenance.
  • Setting up and breaking down equipment for events
  • Perform physically demanding work, including lifting, bending, kneeling, crouching, stooping, pulling, carrying, and walking for extended periods.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required; a minimum of two to three years of experience in a public works/general maintenance environment. Experience setting up and breaking down events, cleaning up public areas, landscaping, and operating landscape equipment, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must have a valid Georgia State Driver's License.

Physical Demands

Must be able to work a flexible schedule. Must be able to lift 30 to 50 pounds occasionally.
