About the Position:

Serves as Supervisor with delegated authority to execute maintenance activities for the Maintenance and Repair Section floating and land based plant. Arranges for the maintenance and repair of plant, attendant plant, engineer equipment, and support equipment engaged in construction operations. Within established policies and practices, organizes workers into the most productive work unit to accomplish assigned tasks.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element):
  • Ability to do the work of a(n) GENERAL MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR without more than normal supervision.
  • Ability to lead or perform common maintenance tasks and assist in coordinating work crews, help organize daily tasks, instruct lower-graded workers in maintenance procedures, and ensure basic safety protocols are followed.
  • Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
  • Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision
  • Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Includes Blueprint Reading)
  • Ability to Plan and Organize Work
  • Use of Measuring Instruments
PHYSICAL EFFORT:

This position requires standing, stooping, bending, occasional lifting in excess of 50 pounds, stretching, working in cramped positions and spaces, handling or maneuvering bulky equipment, and general continuous moderate to arduous physical effort.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work crews are primarily assigned to St. Paul District in remote locations, but also may be needed to support other Districts depending on mission requirements. Work assignments are typically on an ongoing basis and are accomplished within several weeks to months. Employee is required to observe established safe working procedures. Appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment is provided to minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory. Incumbent will be exposed to all weather conditions, unpleasant heat, fumes, and possible injuries.
